Suggestions for Internationally Traveling Tourists

By: Jessica Parks

This year, travel agencies are reporting that more people than ever will be visiting foreign countries, or even just exploring their own. If you're considering taking your first trip to Europe or even throughout the U.S., these travel tips will help you have a stress-free journey.

Ideally, you should carry only two suitcases - one large suitcase, and one smaller suitcase. When packing the smaller one, you should include all articles you plan to need at the day's end like toiletries, cosmetics, robes, nightgown, fold up slippers, etc. When you return from a full day of sightseeing, you're not going to feel like rummaging through the bigger suitcase to find these specific items. The larger bag should hold all of your daily clothes and other miscellaneous items.

Economizing the little space you have is the key to solving your packing woes. You should pack smaller sizes of all of your favorite cosmetic preparations such as cold creams, toothpaste, shampoo and bath powders. When it comes to toothpaste, bring along the one that freshens your breath and also whitens your teeth simultaneously.

A compact alarm clock is a must. If you're suppose to catch a bus early in the morning, you don't want to depend on a concierge to wake you up. Try not to carry too much cash. Take some along, naturally, but only take enough to cover the incidental expenses of one day. In order to keep your money safe, opt for traveler's checks instead. You can turn these into cash as necessary. A credit card is also a necessity on any trip. Only take one card on your trip which will be accepted internationally.

By following a couple safety precautions, you won't end up making yourself a target. Never hang your pocket book from a single shoulder strap. You should wear it with the strap across your body or tuck the bag under your arm. If you carry a wallet, you should never carry it in the back pocket of your pants.

Some travelers like to wrap their wallet in rubber bands to keep it safe. This will make the surface of your wallet more tacky and, thereby, more difficult to lift from your pocket unnoticed. Don't take anything with you that has sentimental value or is quite expensive. When traveling, always keep essentials like a change of clothing in your carry on.

Other bonus items that could help you in a pinch are a traveler's clothesline and pins, inflatable hangers or other tools to help you wash or dry items at night. There may be things that you wish to rinse out at night and it will come in handy to be able to hang them nicely to dry.

Bring a stash of mailing labels that already have your name printed on them. When sending packages home through the mail, it will make the process much more efficient. Some shops will even mail items for you, so it's a good idea to keep the labels on hand while shopping. Those pre-addressed labels will come in extremely handy since they save so much time.

You should keep all of your sales slips together in one large envelope in your purse. This will save time and make it easier when you're going through customs. Your laundry, lingerie, shoes, and other items which need to be separated can easily be divided with a variety of plastic bags.

Make sure to bring suntan lotion on your trip - they may not sell your brand and what they do sell will be expensive! To make sure there will be no breakage, carry lotions, cold cream, shampoo, and deodorant in plastic bottles or jars.

As far as your clothing goes, be sure to bring wrinkle resistant clothing so that it doesn't get ruined in the suitcase. A vacation is meant to give you time off from washing and ironing clothes! Don't attempt to do everything on your trip. While travel should excite you, don't feel obligated to remain active every second. It's also important to spend some time relaxing. It is your vacation, after all!
