Review of Red (2010)

By: JimLikesMovies

Red, a mnemonics device that stands for retired, but extremely danger, is stuffed full of well known actors who aren't particularly young Hollywood stars anymore, but the experienced actors of Red make action sexy at any age. Red has been compared to The Expendables because they both combine action with an older cast, but Red requires more imagining and offers strong female leads that you won't normally see in action movies.
The onscreen match of Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker cannot be beat by any other female action duet. Mirren plays a gun-toting action hero, while Parker stays in the background entertained by the retired CIA crew. Although Red may not receive accolades for its creativity, it still has the retired agent niche beat with its tight storyline that never gets tattered like most in the genre. Even with the over-the-top action sequences, Red is good old-fashioned enjoyment. Red does not just bring in action crazy young adults, but it brings in an more aged audience that is familiar with the cast.
The story of Red may seem familiar, but an ensemble cast like this makes it stand above others. Bruce Willis plays Frank Moses an Ex-CIA agent who finds a colleague in Sarah played by Parker. Sarah and Frank finally meet face-to-face after many long phone calls about his retirement checks. When Sarah arrives, a posse of hit man shower Frank's house with bullets. In an attempt to keep her safe, Frank keeps her against her will, but she becomes awestruck as the story unfolds. Happily coerced out of retirement, Frank seeks out his retired CIA buddies Joe played by Morgan Freeman, Victoria played by Mirren, and Marvin played by John Malkovich. The retired group come together to find out why they are the focus of hit man and rumble William Cooper played by Karl Urban, who would like to knock down Frank and his gang.
The conclusion is that the action alone is enough to go see the film, but the character development is awesome. Bruce Willis plays the alone ex-CIA agent who has trouble
