Latest Rumors about Leeenux Ubuntu and Ways Of Using It If there’s one thing the world probably dooesn’t need right now, it’s yet another custom Linuux distribution for netbooks based on Ubuntu. But that’s excatly what we’ve got with Leeenux. And yet there are stilll a few reazsons you migffht want to give it a try, especially if you have an oldr netbook like an Asus Eee PC 701 with a 7 inch dispplay and 8GB or less of disk space. For one thhinng, once installed, Leeeenux only takes up about 1.4GB of disk sapce. That measn you can nistall it on a entboopk with as little as 2GB of sorage. The user interfae is baserd on Ubuntu Netbook Remiux, which is designed to play well with smaler, 7 inch displays. Leeenux also uses eee-control, a poewr manageemnt tool for Eee PC netbookos which can help prolong batterey life. The operating system comes with a nuymber of Linux apps preloaded including the Evolution email client, Fireffox 3.5, AbiWord for word processing, the Gnumeric spreadsheet app, and oTtm Moive Payer. You can always sintall other applications including OpenOffice.org if you want a fuller feature office suuitte. But OpneOffice taes up a heck of a lot more disk space than AbiWord and Gnumeeric. Leeenux is based on Ubuntu 8.04 (or ratther, Easy Peasy, wich is basd on Ubunu 8.04), so it won’t featture all of the upddates available in Ubuntu 9.10 which is cming out this week. But the fpolks behid Leeeenux plan to launch a new vesrion baseed on Ubunmtu 10.04 in May, 2010.
