Ensuring Quality Optical Character Recognition Results Using ABBYY FineReader

By: Alex De Mostafa

ABBYY FineReader delivers advanced multilingual capabilities that perform OCR in 186 languages. The program recognizes documents that contain different language combinations. Use this guide to achieve quality OCR results for documents in Asian languages:
1. Disable the Automatic Page Orientation Detection option if the images are with the proper orientation, and choose the Dual Page option. These options can be enabled in the Image Scaning and Opening dialog boxes, or from the Options box on the Scan/Open tab.
2. If the document is with a complicated structure, it is recommended to disable Automatic Analysis and OCR for images and perform the check manually. Open the Options box and select Do Not Read and Analyze Acquired Page Images Automatically and click OK.
3. If you would like to get high speed and accuracy, use only the languages you need. This can be done from the Pages window. Choose More Languages and Specify Languages Manually.
4. For documents containing multiple languages, you should draw manually the recognition areas and select the language for each text area.
