10 Time Management Techniques

By: Carey James

Many of the folks I work with have often solely recently left full-time employment and are in the process of fitting their own freelance businesses. Quite a few struggle with how to use their time effectively. There are so many things to do and therefore many competing demands for our time that it will be difficult to know where best to speculate it. Therefore here are some thoughts:
1. Integrate your personal life along with your skilled life. You don't have 2 lives you have got one. So resist the temptation to measure as if you were still used and trying to create eight,9, or ten hour days. If you feel that you want to post a blog on a Saturday evening then do it. If there's an vital event with your children on a Monday afternoon then attend it.
2. Create certain your daily, weekly and monthly tasks are set out in lists. Do the most necessary things on these lists first. I favor to form a list on the evening before then do the most important issue on it the subsequent morning - that's my most artistic time. Just a straightforward paper list is fine.
3. Do not do things that you'll easily offer to somebody else to do. If you'll get another person to create your website quicker than you'll then do it, likewise your letter heads or business cards. If somebody will do it quicker and a lot of efficiently then outsource it to them.
4. Get the 'massive' things' done first. That means not spending a ton of time over small decisions. Do not spend ages worrying about how your business card appearance or the commas in your latest article. Get it done or move on (ideally both).
5. Try not to figure during a public area in your home. This is not invariably potential to realize but if you'll be able to you may be more effective without the distractions. TV off, door closed, and keep interruptions to a minimum.
6. Invest cash in time-saving decisions. If your sales letter, article or brochure is 80% done, do not spend the remainder of the day trying for problems on it. Realize someone else to proof browse it - pay them if necessary. If you've got want to generate new markets - take into account finding a provider of business lists rather than making an attempt to find new customers yourself.
7. Be disciplined with your personal and family time. Do not let individuals invade this. Dedicate hours in the day that you want to spend with your kids. Leave a message on your phone or an 'Out of Workplace message on your email responder to say that you are busy at that moment and you will contact the caller when you can.
8. Set up vital appointments, plan them well in advance. If you have got a talk or a pitch to give or a meeting with a client, arrange backwards and start with the deadline. Diary within the tasks on days leading up to it rather than attempting to try and do all the tasks in one go - you may be a lot of more efficient and focused this way.
9. Do what you feel is correct at the time. Do not force yourself to try and do things like phone calls or letter writing if you aren't moved to try and do it at that time. Do some content or product creation. If you are not ready to try to to some serious work yet then opt for a private or family item on your list and do that first.
10. Build in it slow for the unexpected. Never try to pack your day with activities that you do not have any house for any issue else. Most professionals build during a very little 'wiggle' time just in case of emergencies. A frantic customer rings desperately to talk to you. If you've got some 'wiggle' time built in to your day then you can pander to that.
This is often just an inventory of ten things you'll be able to do to manage some time - there are tons of others. Comment in the box below if you've got any more to add - we tend to'll include it during a revised list later. Do not forget to put your name within the box at the high right of this page so you will understand after we publish it.
